This work was developed while in Residency at Hellerau – Europäisches Zentrum der Künste, and was additionally presented at Kommuna Warsawa in Warsaw, for the Generation After festival 2024.
Disposable income is a solo performance work, which uses interdisciplinary interventions to explore the marketing and use of queer identities in the media. Media includes advertising, political representation, and queer people in film and animation. The research residency period gave rise to the following question which the work has explored. Does having queer identities misrepresented cause micro-trauma for a community that is then lived and experienced on a daily basis? Does the current media vocabulary surrounding queer identities take up a large portion of queer representation thereby incidentally mask deeper discrimination issues? In a wider view, how does all of this affect a wider societal understanding of tolerance towards identity expressions outside of a hetero-normative patriarchal system?

„Kaufenland“ confronts the uncomfortable realities of consumerism without hesitation, presenting a polarizing experience that raises more questions than answers. Influenced by Erich Fromm’s work on modes of being, the work challenges audiences to rethink their approach to life and society. Through thematic exploration, choreographic theater, and interdisciplinary collaboration, the performance delves into the theatricality of consumer environments, sparking reflections on rebellion, vulnerability, and societal values.
How can we preserve our humanity and foster genuine connections in a world overwhelmed by commodification? „Kaufenland“ invites you to witness and reflect on the complexities of consumer culture in a thought-provoking dance experience.

Isn’t It a PityThis innovative theatrical format weaves together sculptural objects, the human figure, contemporary dance, and an original soundscape. The human-like figures of the sculptures interact with the physical performers, prompting questions and offering multiple interpretations of humanity. Through a series of monologues and voice messages that replay continuously, a narrative emerges, blurring the lines between reality and confession.
The work delves into the impact of the digitalization of nearly all human communication on our understanding of relationships and reality.
about Jack
Originally from Australia, Jack worked professionally as a dancer in both Australia and Europe for 8 years. His first work was invited to the Tanzplattform Rhein-Main (DE), the Florence Dance festival (IT), the Tanz zentrale Nürnberg (DE) and Tanznetz Dresden (DE). His work at the Landestheater Eisenach was shortlisted for the Tanzplattform Bern prize 2023 (CH). He has been invited to the International Choreographic Residency program at the American dance festival (USA) and has presented sculptural installation’s at the Deutsche Hygiene Museum (DE) and the Halle 14, Zentrum für Zeitgenössische Kunst. His interdisciplinary work ‘Isn’t it a pity’ was nominated for the WeltenBauer award in 2024, along side the Deutsches Nationaltheater Weimar, and Theater Luzern. He recently created the work ‘Kaufenland’ at the Stadttheater Pforzheim, and is currently in Residence at Hellerau, Europäisches Zentrum der Künste.
